Chapter 1687: Still Trying to Attack
[11/09/2025] I’ve scheduled a few days in advance! A massive storm is coming, and we might lose power. Hopefully, it’s back before all my scheduled chaps get sent out xD Anyway, I still can’t reply to your comments/reviews for now. Sorry! Will read them all soon!

…

—

When she arrived in Voumi, she somehow thrived in the atmosphere of the harem. No matter how unsightly Hesso was, he was still a noble, and outside of bedroom activities, they really did live what was considered the ‘good life’ in this wretched planet.

Except that, one day, all the scheming had gone too far, and she got a miscarriage.

It happened about a week ago during a party held in the Lord’s house. Nobles in this world loved their parties. Even if the wealth coming in was lower, they’d just find a way to get money from below.

Normally, this might lead to a revolt. However, the suppressing effect of strength here was more extreme than in Terran, and the locals’ minds weren’t as creative. Along with the advent of the drug, the masses became more controlled.

It was a drug party which she didn’t want to be a part of, knowing how it could get. However, a servant asked for her, claiming Hesso called for her.

“Sasha! My lovely Sasha! I thought you didn’t want to go? You missed me so much, huh?” he exclaimed, stretching out his arms so she would sit on his lap. That voice had always disgusted her, and his words gave her a bad feeling.

And she was right.

He was high, with a mix of drugs and what she later discovered to be an aphrodisiac. Hesso decided it was cool to take advantage of her in front of everyone. The more violent his pounding, the more exciting the ‘show’ was to them.

She lost her child in the activity that followed. Later, she found out that the servant was Sandra’s.

Somehow, it seemed like the rumors that her baby could be Mafo’s were still lurking, and that bitch didn’t want any loose ends.

Obviously, it was mostly Hesso’s fault, but he was the person she and her lifestyle were unfortunately dependent on, so she could not alienate him.

So, she hated Sandra.

And she wanted her gone.

These were the dark thoughts that were in her mind until she noticed something unusual at the sill of her window. Her eyebrows furrowed, and she stood up to take a closer look.

She narrowed her eyes as she stared at it. A letter?

…

In a dingy rented room in Voumi, Atlas looked out the window, looking in a certain direction.

He was among those who were sent here, in Voumi, to be spies. Like it always was, they pretended not to know each other, so naturally their identities were independent.

In his case, he was a young person from a village, hoping to get a ‘better life’ in a town. Plenty of people were like him, and they actually had very similar living conditions.

Because their levels were not high, the job options as non-locals were limited. This was why, at least at the start, most could only afford to rent a room in the slum area until they could get a good job or get noticed by nobles.

Like every spy, they were well-equipped and were given a decent budget to survive long-term in the territory in question. Their spaces were also filled with different types of potions, at least one protective charm, and other things.

He and the other spies had also taken the improved anti-drug medicine, which would allow them to have an aversion to most addictive drugs.

He stared out the window, dark eyes fixed in the direction of the palace.

Sandra and Gingo were there. Like cockroaches, they were still alive and well.

It was about time to end that.

…

CRASH!

“Those bastards!!!” Mafo bellowed, livid. “THAT DAMNED VALOV AGAIN!!!”

They were so close to figuring out where the drugs were coming from. They had traced it to somewhere Northeast, but they encountered Valov’s mercenary team doing the same!

The few survivors said the Valov mercenaries were relentless and were intent on killing them!

They even asked them where Wazan was! Who the heck was that!?

The most pressing words were: Hurt us and be prepared for war!

CURSE THEM!!

HE ALREADY HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS, HOW DARE THEY ADD TO IT?!

“We have to monitor Level 1 Towns that are allied with Valov!” the elders chanted, also feeling scared. “Who knows who they are?!”

At this time, Eian stepped forward. “Milord, I do know a few,” he said. “Several had come to the auction, you see, and I have made acquaintances.”

This made Mafo and the elders have hopeful expressions, and they immediately ordered him to tell them what he knew.

“I see, I see! Tell me!”

Eian nodded dutifully. His composure was unique amidst the group of powerful men who had long dimmed their minds.

“There is Nana Town, which has been a Level 1 Town for two decades now. From what I hear, their Lord is an elementalist. Their specialty is a version of the beurch stone.”

“There is also the Level 1 Kerot Town, which is rumored to be associated with Holt City, albeit it’s not an official subsidiary.”

No matter which one, it made him dread. One was an established level 1 town with an elementalist lord. The other was rumored to have the backing of one of the strongest cities.

Such a big war needed a lot of money. But his money was draining fast! Even when he had maximized the taxes to what the system allowed—which was not low—it still was not enough.

He did not care about the difficulties of the people. They lived in Voumi. They should help in raising it up!

The industries were dead, and there were barely any buyers anymore. Some of their last business partners had already reduced their orders by half, and it was said this was just to be polite. Eventually, if they get access to more Alterran products, they could abandon them completely!

“DAMNIT!” he screamed and pulled his hair, gasping when a fistful of hair was really pulled out.

His eyes turned even redder than before. “AHHHHRRRHHGGGHH!!!”

WHY WASN’T ANYTHING GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN!?
