Chapter 1681: Aftermaths of the First Reunification War
[11/08/2025] Back to 2ch/day tomorrow! Sorry, war arcs are a struggle (compared to infrastructure building, slice of life, and family chappies), and I’m writing another small one to be uploaded in the next few days. I just take much more time to write/edit when I’m in these parts xD

…

___

How could these people know that the Lord temporarily disabled it? This would require a new payment to reimplement, but Alterra funded this rule change so he could do it.

Alterra would never hold back on spending, even at a loss, if it meant things would be safer for their people.

Anyway, while the aborigines were confused, the enslaved Terrans gaped.

The Terrans watched as their aggressor was pushed back and was taken down by men in… uniform?

They were taken down quite violently, too, with a few people punching and kicking some aborigines over and over, even if they could no longer fight back.

They were also strong, even if their levels were around those of the guards, the guards didn’t know what was coming for them.

Among them was a gorgeous lady with wavy hair. They watched as she gracefully swung her spear to push back an aborigine who was holding a Terran by the hair, dragging her to an alley.

They even saw a cat attacking the person’s face, scratching out his eyes, before getting stabbed by the woman to the point that his equipment cracked.

Another was held by the neck by an extremely strong person, no less than 10 levels higher than him! It was humiliating for the guard that his feet didn’t even touch the ground. No matter how the aborigine struggled, the hand wouldn’t let go.

“AH! What? LET ME GO!” He yelled, but then he felt the hand burning, and he could only shriek like a pig.

Others were taken in by earth spikes that appeared out of nowhere, trapping them in place. These entrapments were extremely durable and couldn’t have been made by someone at their level.

Then some of the weaker uniformed people took advantage of the entrapment and stabbed the people inside, neutralizing them (assuming they were still alive).

Other than them, there were also others who went around, some in uniform, some were not. Many of these people were not far from their level, but they were skilled and their teamwork impressive, and they took down their torturers with relative ease.

Many of them were also familiar, and the locals gasped when they realized they weren’t imagining things.

“Gale?”

“It’s Gale!!”

He was one of the people who was taken away very early on after they were taken over. They were not sure what happened to him, but seeing him making their torturers suffer was enough to give them hope.

They could, right?

…right?

Gale smiled, the wind from his attack still surrounding him. “We’re here to rescue you,” he said, and it was only then that they realized there were also many other familiar faces.

The locals’ eyes widened when they heard continuous screams around them, as more and more people were taken care of.

There were also many terrans who didn’t recognize them (people from the same village didn’t necessarily know everyone), or they simply didn’t react fast enough to realize what was truly happening.

They just heard screams and saw elements flying and were naturally afraid and took cover, waiting for the chaos to end.

They shivered, fearing that they’d be the next one screaming, only to belatedly realize that it was only their oppressors who were all being taken down.

Eventually, even they could see the truth: These visitors from afar—some of whom were old friends—appeared to take down the people who had been abusing them all this time!

Many of the slaves were on the verge of dying, and one could imagine the shock they felt when, after a blink, everything changed.

Although ‘blink’ was an exaggeration, it was true that things in Calming Village had settled down fairly quickly.

It helped that most guards were clustered in a single area, and with an effective sleeping/paralysis bomb thrown in, it expedited things.

The next thing some people woke up to, all the oppressors were already dealt with, incredibly injured (if alive), tied up, and were only waiting for their fates.

The evil people would be sent to Alterra to become prisoners of war, and they were asked to make the harshest oaths allowed by the system. They would work manual labor jobs that few people wanted to take in exchange for atonement points, just like other criminals.

The people in a village were fortunately not big threats, unlike those they encountered as a Town, so their forced oaths could extend for a long time, and even the powerhouses didn’t have to be killed.

As for those who would remain in Calming Village, they also sent some level 14s and 15s to help guard the place while they built it up. While Cassas used the system to build and repair, the rest organized the remaining citizens to gather themselves up and recover.

All this happened in the span of a few hours, and it was overwhelming. For most, it was only when they saw the oppressors being escorted (note: dragged) out of the gate that they absorbed the reality of it all.

“Thank you, thank you…” Many people bowed, sobbing, incredibly relieved to be free again.

“You can thank us by living well,” he said. “And things will only get better from this point forward.”

Gale and the others were also teary. The memory of the territory’s fall was still clear in their mind.

They finally got it back.

…

The aftermath of the 1st war in the ‘Reunification Project’ ended like this. They gained three territories as subsidiaries and increased Prestige again.

If they were to do this for months, how much prestige would that get?

Althea felt a bit concerned. She didn’t want things to move too quickly. At this rate, they could upgrade within a few years, and Level 2 Towns were definitely much stronger than Level 1 ones.

Fortunately, she could tell that the prestige per takeover would have diminishing returns. That was to say, every time they did this would be less accompanying prestige increase.

She could determine this because the prestige given after every alliance she made was a little less than the rest of the same rank.

For example, the prestige she got from allying with Bright and Belluga back then was more than what she got from Guardian Village. Then, after they gained Calming Village, the prestige equivalent was just the same, which meant it was smaller in comparison because Calming became their subsidiary, and subsidiaries gave a bit more prestige than alliances did.

Thinking of it this way, it would be unlikely that she’d upgrade just from reunifying all Terran territories.

Or at least this was what she hoped.

Anyway, Althea returned home using a beast cart several hours later, and she was greeted by her cute babies. She bonded with them for a while while waiting for her husband to settle Calming Village with a few other soldiers.

They had also sent some supplies as relief goods to them, as well. By that time, the rescued slaves in Gecko would have returned to Calming Village. It was just that whether they were from Gecko or still in Calming, their state was horrible. They needed all the help they could get, at least for the first week or so.

Because Calming Village was the nearest among the three new territories and was an actual Terran Territory that was hit by tragedies, they would only do this for them.

This was except for those Terrans who had sided with the aborigines. All of them were under investigation and would receive varying punishments or pardons, depending on the transgressions they committed while on the other side.

They sent carts-full of grain, flour, and other plants, starch, and vegetables that the locals didn’t have. They didn’t put meat or the local fruits because they could just obtain those on their own.

They also scheduled public stews to provide food for about three days, which should be sufficient for them to recover enough that they’d be able to stand on their own. They also retained some level 14s and 15s that Lord Cassas hired with Alterra as the middleman.

Hopefully, by the time it was time for the next war, they wouldn’t have to worry about the territories anymore.

…

The next day, the Reunification Task Force was once again called in.

“So we will decide which territory to attack in two weeks.” This would be something that’d happen every two weeks, with the two satellites attacking in alternation.

“Limestone Valley will ideally initiate it to give Iron Mountain breathing time.”

“To determine which one to claim next, we will determine which Terran territory to recover.”

“I recommend Juno Village next,” Garan said. “It is on the border of the Terran region and has been a constant target along with Diana Village.” These were Gurnam and Sarah’s former territories and, therefore, they had a relatively decent overview despite their group not visiting the territories after being taken over.

“We would like to consolidate the border areas first to keep the aborigines from trying to seep in.” This way, even if they did take over a territory further in, they would’ve been surrounded by Terran territories.

They would also assign Lords to these places and ally with them. The Lords could inform them if they noticed suspicious groups entering the region.

Of course, this wouldn’t be perfect as the space between each village was vast, and the enemies could very well enter through the forests in between, but it was better than nothing.

“Juno Village’s Token is also integrated,” Loki told them, reporting what they knew so far.

Like this, the next village to attack was determined.

Who had the Juno Village Token?

Inko Village, of course.
