Chapter 1680: Gocki Satellites
Other operations were running in parallel while the war was ongoing. By operations, this meant rescue operations.
After all, Gocki had two satellites, and one of which was Calming Village, which they had a vested interest in.
They didn’t bother with Hito Village, the village that officially defeated Calma Village, because Aseem had already taken all the elementalists’ slaves there to his own territory.
Whoever was there—even if they were innocent and suffering aborigines—was none of Alterra’s business, at least at this time. The place was just too far away to care for now.
They could, however, send support to Calming Village after all this was over, and they could handle their own satellite by themselves.
On the other hand, Calming Village was a totally different situation.
Because satellites didn’t have Lords, there was no one to receive the usual announcements from the system to Lords. That was to say, they didn’t know the ‘master territory’ fell at all.
This meant that many of the aborigines there could still hurt their people. When they had the power and the opportunities to stop the abuse, how could they just sit around?
The people assigned here waited on tree branches, waiting for a location where they had a clear view of what was happening in the territory.
They waited for a bit. Although they were too far to receive news from Gocki in real time, they did have an approximate time frame of when the war ended, so no one was impatient.
The mission was co-led by Gale, one of the main fighters of Calming Village back then, and one of the people extremely passionate about the war.
His level was above average among the former slaves, but of course, he wasn’t enough to deal with the large number of aborigines. Fortunately, he was assisted by soldiers as well.
The leading soldiers this time were Orz and Ryan, both of whom were also familiar with the place. Alterran guards like Gwen (and her cat) also joined in, wanting to contribute to the retrieval of a place that had once protected them.
Of course, those who could actually attack were still limited, as they did not want to trigger a war. However, they’d be able to defend their people and at least neutralize threats, and that’d be enough for this purpose.
Soon, the aether letter warmed up. It was from Cassas, and the fact that the magic tool activated meant that they had taken over Gecko already!
How did they know? This was because the Lord—now Cassas—could use the warehouse to transfer his entire body and, therefore, enter the aether letter’s scope to send a message!
Gale and the others quickly headed to the walls, easily sneaking in. This was also facilitated by ‘the Lord’ ordering the guards to go to the plaza for a meeting.
“Huh? When did the Lord arrive?” they heard one ask. That said, they were definitely taking their time to head to the plaza. They were likely under Voumi itself because of their lack of urgency to follow the Lord of a small village.
Cassas even added [Leave the walls alone. Let beasts come in. It’s time they are reminded that they needed strongmen to protect them] in his announcement.
The arrogance was just to the guard’s tastes, so they followed, thinking that they’d see something entertaining soon.
[The Master territory sent us a very interesting gift. Every guard must be in attendance; otherwise, you will be killed.]
The aborigines were confused but also excited. They also saw how the announcements were only sent to the guards, so the rest of the population seemed unaware.
The guards grinned. They wondered what the Lord had in store for them?
…
The day in Calming Village started out as usual. The Terrans, slaves or not, were doing their jobs, gathering resources, dealing with mobs, dealing with their conquestors needs…
The people were listless, their willpower chipped over time until there was nothing left. They felt like robots, just waiting for the day they’d die here or be taken elsewhere as slaves.
They could still remember the days when Calming Village was peaceful, at least relatively. Sure, there were a lot of mobs, but they worked together and had a common enemy. Even if it was hard, it wasn’t hopeless as long as they did their part.
They still remembered the soldiers and how strong they were. For many wars, they were protected to a degree, and for many major beast mobs, they were fighting there alongside them.
Until that big war happened, and they started losing everything.
At first, they thought it was unfair that they were left behind. They logically knew that those who escaped were not at fault, but their hearts needed people to blame, especially as they suffered more and more as time passed by.
Now, they were just tired, and perhaps, in some days, they would long for the past.
They thought the day would be as usual. They’d be tired, they’d be in pain, and their already hurt pride would be further crushed to pieces.
SLAP!
BANG!
And someone would be beaten up, slapped, or kicked here and there. It was nothing new.
They were tired of fighting. They barely had enough energy to continue moving forward, to even have the will to live. How could they even think (or have the energy to) retaliate?
Seeing them all useless, the aborigines were both satisfied due to their feeling of superiority, and annoyed because this meant they were less useful to them.
“Seriously. Why are you all so weak? How can we earn a lot when we send you to Voumi?” one said, slapping a middle-aged man.
He seemed very annoyed, and the others next to him were also very disappointed. “Were our tests hard? They just had to run for an hour while carrying one of us. Is it hard?”
Others sneered. “I thought elementalists recovered faster and are stronger in general. Looks like they’re not that special, after all.”
They were guards who also received the announcement. It was just that they were near the plaza, so they could take their time heading out.
Further, one of these people was the Level 20 steward assigned by Voumi. He could be arrogant. That Lord assigned to this place was weaker than him, after all.
Anyway, their mood was certainly a bit foul this morning because these damned slaves just couldn’t seem to improve enough. “Tsk, the masters in Voumi Town would have us whipped for giving subpar products.”
“Can’t they still sell them high in the auctions?”
After so long, how could they not know how much each slave could actually be sold in proper channels? They were tempted to do the same, but Voumi would definitely not let them be if they dared to compete!
At this, the steward gritted his teeth. “Yes, the problem is that they’d buy them for very low from us if the quality is low. We barely make much, while they make a profit!”
They then glared at the slaves.
“TSK! This is all your fault! heard how much decent ones sell? You can’t compare. Useless! Useless!” another yelled, kicking random Terrans who were barely conscious on the ground.
BANG!
SLAM!
BOOM!
While kicking around, the steward soon reached a woman who was shivering on the ground. He grinned and raised his feet to kick her down.
Slam!
And he kicked her over and over, just because. Their level differences were not low, and the woman had long lost consciousness.
Unexpectedly, while venting—
BANG!
He was suddenly blown by a gust of wind. He gasped when he felt the pain of slamming onto a random wall.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
More and more sharp gusts slammed onto him, barrelling onto his body. “AHHHH!” he screamed, feeling the sharp sting of wounds that were forming all over his body.
He glared at two people who were sending him wind attack after wind attack, and they were definitely weaker than he was.
He was about to scream for help when he realized that the rest of his companions weren’t saved either. Some were stabbed by a spear, others eaten by the earth, and so on.
They were all completely neutralized, useless, and unable to fight back at all!
“WHAT!?!”
First of all, wasn’t there a no-kill and no-attacking rule, at least if they were not guards? What happened? Why weren’t these people getting kicked out?
This was one of the things that impressed them in this place. Since very specific rules were expensive, not many Lords actually had this in place.
When they got here and found out that there were no violence rules, they were annoyed at first. But then they found out guards were made exemptions (which must’ve been expensive), and this meant they could attack all they wanted without getting attacked in return!
How much fun did they have?
It certainly gave a different sort of high, to put down those who still had strong mentalities, but could not go against them at all.
After all, when they had just taken over, there were still some rebellious thoughts floating around. When they became territory guards, those people could only succumb. It was hilarious.
So what was going on now?!
