One of these was Elron, who arrived with his family.
He was strong-a proper guard of a City noble-and the town mobs weren’t a big problem for them even when they walked there.
And since they were coming South from Hubble Town, they interestingly encountered a caravan group from a place called Yassof Village.
They met right outside the walls as part of the queue heading inside.
“So many people…” his wife, Lisa, said, as she looked at the long queue that followed a nice black road that was so easy to walk on.
Speaking of this black road, his son was young and low-level.
Normally, after a distance, he’d need to be carried.
When they reached this black road, walking was so much easier that the child was still on foot until now.
They learned to walk at the side, however, after realizing that beast carts go through here, coming in from both sides.
While they lined up, they also couldn’t help but listen to the surrounding chatters, hoping to get more information about the place.
Posts could only express so much, after all.
Well, Kalfene was never one for detailed letters anyway, so his message was really straightforward, and they were not sure what exactly to expect. It so happened that the people behind them in the queue were quite talkative.
“Wow, more people are visiting Alterra now…” one said.
“Well, it’s what we expected.
They’re just growing so quickly, even faster than we initially thought.” “Did you know?
The person behind us is further Southwest from Ferrol!
How far has their name gone?
They’re expanding influence and I’m so curious what their prestige is now.” “Milord, what about our prestige?” another asked, and it made Elron almost want to turn his head.
Surprisingly, the Lord himself was there.
It was pretty unusual to see Lords outside of their territories.
After all, their entire territory’s existence depended on them being alive… Yassop looked at his men.
“Well, it’s still far from upgrading.
But it’s fine.
Becoming a town can get dangerous for us if we’re not ready yet.” “Yes, better use this time to gather strength so we can handle that level!” “I have heard of the terrifying mobs that come during the upgrade.
I’m afraid too many will die.” At this, many of the people excited for their village’s upgrade suddenly calmed down.
“Perhaps by that time, the young master is ready to help you out.” At the mention of his grandson, Yassop’s expression softened.
“That would be the ideal, but I am fine if he couldn’t.
I’m just happy he’s talking now and happy that my daughter is finally moving on.” “But, Milord, they can’t be hostages forever, yes?” one asked.
“You’d need to get your heir back at some point.” Everyone knew by this time that the term ‘hostages’ meant differently with Lady Yelena and the young master, but they still referred to the arrangement that way due to habit. “Well, yes,” Yassop said.
“But I hope he experienced life here, and received their education.” Alterra itself was already a bigger world, and he could tell the children who grew up here would grow up to be good adults, at least for the most part. At the very least, they’d be informed adults who would know more than their peers.
Making intelligent decisions based on expanded knowledge could never be a disadvantage.
“I did hear the Lady has also gathered a bit of contribution points as well,” one said.
“Do you think that someday, she’d purchase the increase for purchase limit for our village?” Smack!
“Ow!” “How dare you lust after our lady’s contribution points?!” “…but!
But what we buy is really lacking.
I need more sauces and condiments for my restaurant!” “That’s your lack of foresight,” another said.
“Don’t you know what some youngins’ are doing?
They’re staying here temporarily and raking up contribution points before heading back, precisely to get these things.” “Are we sure they’re even gonna come back?” “…” They were not.
“What about you?
Where are you from?” They asked Elron, looking at him curiously.
Elron flinched.
Was his eavesdropping so obvious? (To be fair, it was obvious.
He had unconsciously turned his head while listening, and he didn’t notice it on time.) The Yasof villagers looked at him curiously.
They could not tell his exact level, but they could feel he was much stronger, so he was probably from a town at least. Maybe even a City, but other than a few people, how often would City folk even reach this region?
“We came from Hubble Town,” Elron said after a while, and surprisingly, the party nodded as if they were acquainted with the town. “Ah, where Miss Veronica is!
Very nice.” “Yes, yes, her guards are quite friendly considering everything.” “I haven’t seen her in a while, though.” “I heard she went on a trip.
Maybe she went home?” Elron’s eyebrows rose.
He knew the Hubble Lord’s daughter was named Veronica, and he heard she had gone on a long trip elsewhere.
They meant she was here?
It seemed like there were plenty of territories already in this place.
He looked at the tall wall.
He just went to follow the Golds.
He didn’t really have many expectations, especially after finding out it was just a level 1 town.
They just needed to get out of his in-laws’ vicinity to find peace, and when Kalfene offered him a job, he readily took it.
Now…, he was genuinely curious what awaited them.
