1660: Spying and Observing 1660: Spying and Observing “Hey,” Hubert asked.

“Why don’t we just attack one particularly annoying village over and over?” They all looked at him, and most blinked while some nodded.

It wasn’t that Alterra didn’t consider this.

They really did, and they were definitely not above doing something like this.

After all, it would be the best guarantee for the safety of their fighters, who’d be very vulnerable to enemy attacks since they were on the attacking side.

However, if possible, they would not abuse this.

One, it would be too predictable if they did this.

What if they had strong enemies who waited to ambush their people?

Another, not only did it feel inhumane to do so, but there would be no resources to take anymore after the second time.

Territories came rarely, and while the creation of tokens was still a mystery to them, they knew they didn’t appear too often.

Regardless of the owners, the system territories were heaven-sent to people just trying to survive in this turbulent world.

Destroying one unnecessarily was effectively taking away the chance of life for many innocents, too.  Of course, if they determined that the village they were attacking would be too dangerous to keep standing, that was a different matter.

By that time, though, their patterns would’ve been seen as unpredictable, so they could probably avoid ambushes unless someone leaked the territory they’d attack next.

Still, they’d try to plant decent citizens as Lords if possible, but otherwise it was a free-for-all.

Further, if they ran out of ‘worthy’ territories to target, then they’d definitely have to repeatedly attack certain places.

That would take a while, though.

According to the last report before contact was cut, there was an inordinate number of territories they could attack.

Some were Terran, some were Terran Villages taken over by locals, and there were also pure aborigine territories.

The scouting teams hadn’t even been mobilized for long.

That said, most of these targets were from the west and east, where they knew the most information about.  While the West and the East diplomatic teams had already made round trips to Alterra, the north-bound ones had yet to return.

The North had the largest collection of villages, and the place they had the least contact with and information about.  Except for those at the edges (which they had yet to establish contact with), it seemed like most of the Northern territories had been untouched by aborigines for much longer than others.

They were therefore able to develop more.  As for how they’d determine which territories to attack and which ones to ally with or make subsidiaries, they had to remain low-key in their investigations.

In order to be more subtle in their travel, the powerhouses like Otto had to camp outside for most of the trip.

If a powerhouse entered a village, then it was too attention-grabbing.

How could they observe properly without any cover-ups?

Fortunately for them, Otto had a luxury tent (a limited edition product from the Specialty Store) that could comfortably fit several people.

If they squeezed in, maybe a dozen could fit.

Several parts of its cover were made of the same materials as the beast repelling stickers, so they didn’t have to worry about those pesky low-level mobs-which were most of the mob since it was only villages in the area.

The luxury tent came with an inflatable bed, a small toilet that’d automatically bury the waste in the soil underneath.

There were also curtains and a drain so people could even take a shower inside.

It occupied a good half of the magic space, though, so only Otto, as the person with a small space stone, had one in their team.

Not to mention, it was really not cheap in both money and contribution points, so not everyone could afford it even if they emptied out their spaces for it.

Even if he weren’t camping, Otto knew he’d be reluctant to let it go after experiencing it once.

It was really comfortable to sleep outside.

Anyway, with Otto comfortable, the rest of them could investigate in peace.

For example, Misha and the others would go in as visitors and observe the place.

They would pose as either refugees or merchants, depending on the place, and they would observe and gather information.

Except for those territories that were obviously bad, some territories needed a bit more study to determine whether they could be allies or subsidiaries.

If the people were needlessly suffering and if the leading party was greedy and horrid, then they wouldn’t be people their territory would want to partner with.

In those cases, they wouldn’t spend so much time there.

They’d discreetly leave and note it down as a potential hostile territory that the Terran Recovery Team should check out.

Otherwise, if the Lord and the leading party were decent, then they’d open up an offer for alliance.

If it were somewhere midway, then they could be a subsidiary at best.

Misha was sent to negotiate first, along with some people within the level cap, or level 20 at most.

It showed they were from a town, but didn’t send such an overwhelming force that the offer would feel like a threat instead.

They didn’t want to throw Otto in and make random threats to expedite the mission because they wanted to know how things were, as accurately as possible.

They wanted things to be as peaceful as possible.

It was slower, but every bit of information could be crucial, especially for places they might not have the time to study well.

There could also be hidden forces that would just hide if they entered too quickly Finally, it would also allow their team to have a decent amount of breathing time in each territory.

Of course, they still put a time cap of a day for each territory, at most.

After all, they had a lot of territories they had to go through, and they found out the North had a far denser amount of territories than anywhere else.

However, when more and more of the leaders-the Lord, or a guard-tried to hit on Misha, trying to entice her to join them, it made Otto (when he found out) itch to come with them.

It made Otto rethink the original strategy of taking things slowly.

Should he just threaten everyone and get this over with?
