1648: Stuck in Ferrol!

1648: Stuck in Ferrol!

If only they could block them from entering at all… Sadly, even the Lords could not block entrances at all, as the Elders had tried many times.

The reasoning was similar to why they couldn’t require everyone who entered to take an oath, as if needing a visa to enter.

The System-for better or for worse-protected the right to survive.

It was its main function and meaning, after all.

It was why oaths, unless they were slaves, could not be extremely overbearing.

In the same vein, the system prohibited stopping people from entering the protection of a territory as long as they paid the entrance fees.

There was also an entrance fee cap, limiting the abuse that lords could impose.

The designer, whoever they were, probably just wanted to protect as many people as possible from this world that was just dangerous by default.

Anyway, this meant that the ‘bad guys’ could enter as long as they paid, and would remain inside unless they were kicked out for doing something against the rules.

Althea sighed and looked at Loki.

“What do we know about the people coming here?” “Wazan.

A Level 37 Fire elementalist and one of the Valov Lord’s trusted aides,” he said.

“His level is not considered a top powerhouse for high-level Towns, but he is always the one sent for ‘diplomatic’ missions for some reason.” Wazan was famous and Jonathan knew him well.

Because it wasn’t classified information, he could tell them about the bastard, and this was included in the letter he sent to the base.

“Wazan had been instrumental in taking over various villages for Valov Town, being one of their main assists.

“The other two are named Erggo and Loin, a level 32 swordsman and a level 31 spearman.

This was according to Ryan, but that was all we knew about them for now.” Mathilda had been quiet this whole time, tapping on the table as she thought.

“They will be coming with the caravan, yes?

Wanting to gather more information?” “They will find a way to take over.” “Or do something similar to how they got Ferrol to agree to their demands back then,” Mathilda said, and everyone looked at her.

“So sure?” “Yes,” Mathilda said with certainty, and they couldn’t help but sigh.

Considering her confidence, they knew she used her newest inherited skill.

Prophecy.  However, the skill only worked with respect to people and their possible behaviours.

Hence, the more accurate term would be Foresight.

Although Mathilda’s skill didn’t guarantee absolute accuracy, the chances were pretty high.

Anyway, they preferred to prepare for the worst-case scenarios.

For example, since Valov was still a Level 2 Town, they could not attack it directly.

However, Valov could send attacks every two weeks.

Another route they could take was barraging their satellites, which had slightly higher chances of success but would not be as lucrative.

Anyone who studied Alterra would know they wouldn’t just leave their satellites to suffer alone.

“Perhaps they could send people to trap us.

They know the path and the timing, so it wouldn’t be impossible,” Garan said.

Back when Mao and the others went to assist Limestone Valley, nee Fargo Village, they had people who trapped the enemy forces and tortured them outside the walls.  Valov…would definitely be worse than they were.

“Are we ready for another war?” “Regardless, we don’t want to go to war at all.” “Well, there’s a way to avoid wars… at least Alterra could,” Mathilda said, dissipating the tension.

“Have you all forgotten?

We considered this ages ago.” “Ah…” “That’s right.

We can get our satellites to attack others,” Mathilda continued.

“And we’re not just waging war for this.

But we’ll have actual reasons this time.” One of the things they could do was to order the satellites to attack enemies to reset the timer.

At the very least, it’d be a surprise, and people would find it difficult to guess which place they’d attack next.  “Which territory?” “That’d be decided by whatever the Terran Recovery Team discovered.” This made sense.

Since there would be inevitable conflict with some territories in the region, particularly those they had to fight with to rescue their brethren, then they might as well attack them as a deterrent to Town wars.

This was hitting two birds with one stone.

That said, they needed to increase the forces of both satellites, and one of the things to do this was to hire stronger aborigines just below the level cap.

Althea could receive 3 hires in the Center every day at the maximum, which was not a bad number, and there were a lot of people at the good level by now.

Anyway, it was definitely much cheaper to make a village overpowered than risk a fight at Town level.

First things first: Ryan and the others must refuse to travel with those men!

The moment they exited a territory, they would no longer be protected by the rules and regulations.

While they believed Ryan, Gwen, and the others wouldn’t be bullied too badly, the level difference was too stark and, if conflict happened, their side would have losses.

“We can fetch them…” Loki said.

They could send powerhouses in exchange for contribution points.

These people did not lack money, but many of them could still use a lot of points.

“But we need to see their strengths first.

There could be other allies there, too.

We also don’t know if they have more coming or set up outside.” Although getting Ryan and the rest of them out of there as fast as possible was indeed practical, they didn’t underestimate the enemy’s insidiousness.

They’d need to send some powerful scouts first, just in case, but that’d need another day or two at least.

They’d rather not reveal their cards so early, either.

For one, Valov was connected to Hassen, who could recognize the Golds, and all their misdirections could crumble, and maybe they’d have to deal directly with another city if that happened.  Ansel sighed, feeling they were so pitiful.

“I guess they’d be stuck in Ferrol Town for a while longer.” Similarly, they, too, would probably enter a lockdown soon.

But at least they were still in Alterra!
