- Chapter 1639 - 1639 New Visitors
1639: New Visitors 1639: New Visitors “Let’s go to the Town Center,” Ryo said, shaking them out of their reverie.
“The Elders are waiting there now.
“We should start the alliance process as soon as possible so you could return back to your territories quickly.” “A-Ah yes.” Do they have to leave so soon?
They weren’t able to hide their thoughts on their faces at all.
They looked very awkward, and many Alterrans had to cover their mouths to stifle their laughter.
After a couple of days of traveling together, although there were a lot of suspicions and cynicism, there were also plenty of friendships formed along the way.
For example, Bento nudged one of his new friends.
“I wanted to show you the arcade, but yeah, I guess you have to go back soon.
Pity.” He said, faking a tear.
“…” Another wrapped his arm around his friend, too.
“What a bummer, indeed.
I was going to treat you to a premium restaurant that could really imitate top Terran cuisine.
I guess we can do that next time.
“…” Even the aborigines like Tambai were now completely Alterran.
He looked at his kinda-friend Crunk, who had been asking a lot about the female population in Alterra, hoping to break his singlehood with them.
After all, after everything, there were far fewer Xenoan women in the world (and about a third of them hated men now), so single men were abundant.
“I was going to wingman you to one of our bars.
It’s a great place to mingle for singles…but, I guess you can wait.” “!!!” And so on.
The visitors’ faces were completely red, ashamed, embarrassed, and remorseful.
At the same time, how could they not know they were being teased?
But… who needed pride anyway?
The atmosphere around the newcomers’ party shifted to one of shamelessness and thick skin.
Those who befriended an Alterran immediately grabbed them to soften them up.
Crunk, Lord Crispin’s nephew, led in shamelessness.
“Okay, stop it,” he said, letting out an awkward laugh as he grabbed his friend’s shoulder.
“We apologize for doubting you.” This was followed by the others, blabbering flowery compliments here and there.
There were a handful of people who were more open-minded than others and interacted with the Alterrans.
Of course, after the stickers were introduced, most of them were friendlier, but it was awkward due to the earlier harshness.
Now…they could only feel jealous of the few who built friendships early on.
Ryo shook his head, though there was a light smile on his face.
He looked at the Lords.
“Only the Lord and one or two assistants need to come with us.
The rest can start exploring.” Most of the visitors cheered, bright smiles on their faces, while the Lords looked at everyone else with envy.
Look at these bastards.
Not even a day ago, these people were protective of them, refusing to separate and leaving them alone for a few minutes.
Now… they looked antsy to explore on their own and leave them behind.
Fortunately, just before they ran away, they did remember that their Lords, ones they swore to protect, were right there, staring at them.
Ryo’s wording was that they “could” explore around on their own, but that was ultimately according to the Lords’ instructions, wasn’t it?
In the end, the Lords succumbed to the awkward, hopeful stares of their people and waved their hands.
“You guys explore on your own, meet up with us outside the plaza in 3 hours,” the Lords said, or some variation of it.
The others’ eyes sparkled and nodded.
“Yes, good luck at the meeting, my Lord.” “We will be there on time, my Lord, don’t worry.” “You can take your time, my Lord.” “…” Fickle bastards.
Anyway, they knew their tasks and went with Ryo.
They chose one guard and an advisor each to go with them.
They didn’t take more, simply because of the look of disappointment on the people they chose to come with them.
The rest went to roam around, some getting guides as recommended by Alterrans, while those who befriended Alterrans got some for free, and were even treated to some places.
Seeing as these people would be heading to restaurants, arcades, and the like for free, some people couldn’t help but grumble in envy.
They should’ve been nicer to them, damnit!
The Lords’ group heading to the Center went to the transportation hub to queue for bikes and broats rentals.
Ryo rented one of the bigger ones, pulled by two broats and could easily carry about a dozen people.
Lord Menarco and the others went in, and felt a bit tense as the cart lunged forward.
All of them looked out as they moved, and more of Alterra was exposed to them, making them gape.
“I wonder how rich the Lord here is,” Lord Crispin asked, looking at the extremely well-planned design of the place.
The roads were extremely wide with provision for several car lanes and pedestrian lanes.
Did they do it like this from the start?
As a Lord himself, he naturally could tell it was impossible to do this without a lot of money.
Regardless of whether they planned it like this from the start or if they demolished later on, the cost was not small.
Lord Hodai nodded, looking at the various buildings.
This part of the avenue was abutted mostly by two-storey buildings, and he could see some buildings with three storeys in other places.
Then, at a distance, there were even tall buildings.
“I’m assuming the Lord must be extremely rich, right?” Crispin asked.
Hodai nodded.
“Or balanced: i.e.
he distributed his wealth to build all this.” Menarco couldn’t help but add his own theories.
“Or…they followed the socialism model or something similar.
Perhaps, he was charismatic enough so that the people could let go of their wealth to build all this.” “Well, any of the possibilities have something to admire or to aspire to,” Crispin said in agreement.
Ryo turned and looked at them in alternation.
Looking at them like this, one would wonder if they forgot they were once rival villages.
He flinched when they all turned to him, as if feeling his stare.
“Which one is it?” they asked, curious.
“We have no Lord.” They flinched, and narrowed their eyes at him.
“You really have no Lord?
You expect us to believe that?” Then, Hodai asked him, with a deeper look in his eyes.
“Do you really believe that?” Ryo sighed, shrugging.
“Does it matter?” he asked.
“Everyone’s living well as we are.
“We really can’t ask for more.”
