Absolute Cheater - Chapter 508
Chapter 508: Bionics XI
Asher approached the ancient door, its six glowing seals arranged in a perfect circle, each one pulsing like a heartbeat. The air around it felt heavier—older—as if the chamber itself was holding its breath.
He placed his palm against the first seal.
The surface rippled like water.
“Tch… yeah. This is gonna take a while,” he muttered.
The Knight stood guard behind him, silent, blade resting tip-first against the ground.
Asher focused.
The seal responded immediately, threads of light unraveling outward the moment he touched it—but they didn’t open. Instead, they tangled around his hand like chains made of energy.
“Great. Complicated and annoying. Perfect.”
He pulled his soul power through his palm, channeling it carefully. The threads hissed, tightened, then loosened as he pushed the right amount of pressure into the pattern. The first seal dimmed, then folded inward like a flower closing.
One down.
Five more to go.
Asher moved to the second seal and tapped it with two fingers. This one didn’t ripple; it resonated—sending a shockwave through the stone beneath his boots.
He narrowed his eyes.
“So you react to vibration, huh?”
He flicked his knuckle against it again, this time changing the frequency. The seal answered with a soft hum. Asher tuned his soul resonance until the hum matched, then pressed in. The seal cracked open, lines of bright light retracting into the door.
Two down.
He exhaled slowly.
“Whoever built this was either a genius… or bored out of their mind.”
The third seal lit up on its own, recognizing his approach. It shifted into a rotating sigil—a puzzle of pieces spinning in random patterns. Asher placed his hand on it and guided the rotations, slowing the chaotic swirl until each piece clicked into place.
The seal dissolved into mist.
Three down.
The fourth seal was worse.
The moment he touched it, the chamber darkened, and the seal latched onto his arm, pulling soul energy directly out of his body.
“Oi—HEY!” Asher snapped, yanking back before it could drain too much. “You greedy bastard.”
He re-engaged it with a controlled pulse of energy, stabilizing the drain and forcing the seal to take only what he allowed. It resisted, fighting him like a starving beast, but Asher’s control was absolute. He pushed back, reversed the flow, and shattered the seal’s anchor.
The fourth seal broke with a sharp, angry pop.
Four down.
The Knight glanced at him—almost impressed.
Asher shrugged. “Yeah, I know. I’m amazing.”
The fifth seal floated upward as he approached, transforming into a tiny orb of light. It zipped around his head like a firefly, refusing to be caught.
Asher sighed, rubbed his temples, then snapped his fingers.
A pulse of soul force disrupted the orb’s flight pattern just enough for him to trap it between two fingers. The moment he did, it burst and scattered into harmless sparks.
Five down.
Only the final seal remained.
This one didn’t glow, move, or react.
It just waited.
Asher stepped in front of it, placed both hands on the door, and closed his eyes. He felt the faint echo inside—almost like someone else’s heartbeat. Slow. Ancient.
A lock tied to authority.
A lock tied to will.
A lock tied to dominance.
“Alright,” he whispered. “If that’s how you want it.”
He pushed his entire presence outward—his killing intent, his soul pressure, his raw force of will. The air trembled, the ground cracked beneath his feet, and the entire chamber shifted as if bowing to him.
The seal responded—quietly, almost respectfully—before breaking apart into six falling fragments of blue light.
Asher lowered his hands.
“…And that’s six.”
The door rumbled.
Deep, ancient machinery awakened behind it. Dust fell from the ceiling. The door’s edges glowed brighter and brighter as the seals unlocked fully.
The Knight stepped closer, sword ready.
Asher rolled his neck.
“Whatever’s behind this… better be worth the trouble.”
With a final thunderous groan, the massive door slid open.
A cold gust spilled out.
A new chamber revealed itself.
The cold gust faded, and the full chamber came into view.
Asher’s eyes narrowed.
It wasn’t a throne room.
It wasn’t a treasure vault.
It wasn’t another arena.
It was a lab.
A massive one.
The entire chamber stretched outward like a cathedral-shaped workshop, filled with rows of half-shattered machinery, glowing vats, suspended cages, metal tables, and containment pillars that pulsed with runic restraints. The air smelled of old metal, dead energy, and something sour—like experiments that had been left unfinished for centuries.
The Knight stepped in beside him, its glowing eyes dimming in caution.
“Yeah…” Asher muttered. “Whoever worked here wasn’t making toys.”
He took a slow step forward.
To the left, a huge tank the size of a small house stood cracked open. Inside were the remains of a creature made of shifting liquid metal and black smoke—its form unstable even in death.
To the right, thick glass pods lined the walls.
Some contained half-formed void beasts.
Others contained floating, distorted humanoid shapes—twisted demons with extra limbs, extra eyes, or hollow chests carved out like cages.
Most were dead.
Some were… not entirely dead.
One pod flickered with a faint pulse.
Asher stopped and raised a hand, signaling the Knight to stay alert.
Further inside the lab, ancient mechanical arms hung from the ceiling like dead spiders, rusted and frozen in mid-operation. A few still held tools—scalpels made of void metal, gemstone syringes, soul-extractors with cracked cores.
“Voiders… liquid metal constructs… chimeras…” Asher muttered, scanning the room. “Whoever ran this place was mixing everything. Monsters, demons, even corrupted soul beasts.”
He moved deeper.
A row of cages came into view next—massive, reinforced, each one big enough to hold a small dragon. Inside them were skeletal remains chained to the walls, bones fused with metal and runes.
Experiments that failed.
Or experiments that were used up.
Asher exhaled softly, eyes steady as he surveyed the lab.
“This place is sick,” he said, voice calm but edged with contempt.
The Knight gave a single nod, its hand firm around its sword hilt.
Asher stepped onto the raised central platform. Holographic projections flickered awake—blueprints of twisted creatures, dissected soul structures, experimental notes written in an ancient void tongue. He slid a hand across the console, prompting it to respond.
