Chapter 260: Chapter 260 – Reaper
The group exchanged tense looks.

Marie’s expression darkened first.

“I swear… they’re up to something again. I can feel it. Something dangerous.”

Lucien nodded.

“Then we can’t ignore it.”

Eirene tightened her grip on her pendant.

“Let’s move quietly.”

They slipped into the right corridor like shadows. The farther they went, the colder the air became. A faint ringing of unseen chains followed them like a whisper brushing against the walls.

The hallway widened…

Then opened.

And every single one of them froze.

Before them stretched a chamber vast enough to swallow cities.

Rows upon rows of gigantic cages towered into the darkness like an ancient bestiary locked away in metal and stone. Enormous shackles hung from pillars carved with runes of justice and suppression.

Marie whispered, breath trembling,

“…This… this is a prison.”

Not just a prison. It’s a cathedral of captivity.

And its inmates—

Everyone swallowed unconsciously.

Because the beings trapped inside the cages were not just creatures one would casually encounter in the Big World.

They were monsters.

Eternal Realm monsters.

Ancient beings spoken of in legends… the very ancestors of the thousand races.

Even the Celestial-realm seniors lost all color in their faces.

“T-That… that’s the Red Dragon…” one senior choked out.

Inside a cage, an enormous beast of molten crimson scales lay chained. Its eyes glowed like dying embers, and every slow exhale made the air tremble.

“And… Dark Shade…” the other senior whispered, stepping back.

A towering mass of shadow, vaguely humanoid, pulsed behind bars threaded with Stillness runes. Each flicker distorted the air.

Their gazes swept over the remaining cages.

Other ancient beings lay bound.

Storm Roc. Behemoth. Titans. And dozens more.

They were creatures whose names were written in the Millennia War records.

One Celestial senior whispered with shaking voice,

“I heard tales from my ancestors before… There were dozens of Ancient Beings who once rampaged, and the Eternal of Stillness personally subdued them.”

Another added with cracked voice,

“We thought they were destroyed… and wiped out… not still alive down here…”

“During the Millennia War,” the older senior murmured, “they fought with humanity.”

They had not always been enemies.

“But after the Black Mass emerged, and peace returned,” he continued, “their arrogance grew. Their descendant races worshipped them as gods… and they erased those who defied them.”

Marie bit her lip.

“So they were locked away… because they betrayed what they once protected.”

Eirene clenched her jaw.

“…They’re still dangerous now.”

Then—

A faint shift of movement.

From the farthest corner… one monster’s presence surged outward.

The entire chamber trembled.

Even bound, its aura crawled across their skin like death itself. If not for the suppression runes, even breathing the same air as that creature would have killed them.

Marie whispered, horrified,

“…W-What… is that…?”

Eirene’s face drained of color.

“They’re beings that shouldn’t exist above the surface anymore.”

Fear rooted itself in everyone’s chest.

Everyone except—

Lucien.

He stared at the shackles binding the Eternal beasts. His eyes widened a fraction.

These…

The structure. The materials. The layered runes. The sealing formation.

It was almost identical to—

The Gargoyle Monster Emperor sealed inside his Gargoyle Dungeon.

The one sleeping deep within the castle-themed dungeon’s top floor.

Lucien’s mind sharpened instantly.

‘These restraints… they’re nearly the same. The Eternal of Stillness has the Primordial Slime’s technology as well?’

Eirene noticed the change in his expression.

“Brother Luc…?”

Lucien’s eyes glowed with a chilling clarity.

‘The only difference… is that these creatures are awake.’

Just then—

The flames, shadows, and shifting air in the distance finally aligned enough for Lucien’s group to see clearly.

Marie’s breath hitched.

Eirene’s eyes narrowed.

Lucien’s expression turned to stone.

Because positioned before the cages… were the Nephralis Sect and the Varkhaal Sect.

They had created a massive ritual array.

A ring of interlocking magic circles. Some were carved into the ground and some were floating in midair. These circles glowed in alternating hues of molten crimson and abyssal black.

The two factions knelt in synchronized formation, channeling their essences into the formation despite the heavy strain.

The arrays reacted violently.

Lines of power surged forward…

…straight into the cages.

Marie clamped a hand over her mouth.

“They’re… feeding something to them.”

Lucien’s eyes sharpened.

It was—

“Their essence,” Eirene whispered in revulsion. “They’re feeding their ancestors bloodline resonance.”

And she was right.

Every second, the caged Eternal Monsters inhaled deeper than before.

The Red Dragon’s embers brightened.

The Dark Shade’s mass thickened.

Chains rattled ever so slightly, tightening instinctively as the suppression runes strained to contain the revived strength.

The breathing of the ancient beings… was stabilizing.

It was growing heavier and stronger.

The chamber trembled with a low, dreadful hum.

A Nephralis disciple’s voice echoed from across the ritual field:

“Once this is complete, the Red Dragon Ancestor’s strength will surge again… and OUR reign shall return.”

Another, filled with fanatic devotion, added,

“With the eternal ancestors restored, even the Celestials will kneel. The Thousand Races will kneel. This world will bow once more.”

A Varkhaal acolyte laughed softly, darkly.

“Let them struggle. Let them run. The shadows will erase every rival sect when our ancestor awakens.”

More whispers followed.

Plans of domination. Dreams of vengeance.

The promise of entire continents burning in their wake.

Each delusion sharpened the air until breathing felt cold and razor-thin.

The Verdant Veil group turned pale.

Marie trembled with fury. “Those idiots…!”

Eirene’s tone was icy. “If even one of them breaks free, a region will fall.”

The Celestial-realm seniors were shaking.

The group collectively felt their stomachs sink.

But then…

While the others stared in horror at the reviving titans, Lucien was already thinking of a way to stop them without being noticed.

His eyes lowered half a fraction.

Marie noticed the cold glint in his eyes.

“You’re planning something,” she whispered.

Lucien didn’t deny it.

He watched as the Red Dragon inhaled deeper… rattling chains that could flatten cities.

Then, quietly, he murmured,

“They won’t succeed.”

His expression sharpened to a lethal calm.

“Not while I’m here.”

Lucien opened his Inventory and rapidly scrolled through its contents, searching for a specific item.

Then—

He found it.

Reaper Drones, an epic drop from the Death Slime. He has a dozen of them.

Lucien’s eyes lit up.

He tapped one of the items.

FWIP—

A small mechanical construct materialized in his hand.

The others stiffened at the sight.

It looked like a metallic wraith. It has a sleek obsidian plating, its blade-like wings folded against its body, and a single red core-eye glowed with a predatory pulse.

Thin, needle-like limbs hung beneath it. They were tools meant only for killing. Whisper-fine vents at its back released faint trails of cold mist with every hum of its power core.

Marie whispered, stunned,

“…What is that?”

Lucien didn’t answer.

He summoned all twelve.

FWIP—FWIP—FWIP—FWIP—

A cloud of dark, silent shapes hovered around him like metallic phantoms awaiting judgment.

Eirene’s eyes widened.

“Brother Luc… those things are—”

“Garbage cleaners,” he finished softly.

He willed them to act.

The response was instantaneous.

The Reaper Drones shifted, forming a coordinated attack pattern. Their wings unfolded with a faint shing, and their red eye-cores dilated like hunters spotting prey.

Then—

Above the head of the nearest Nephralis disciple…

A crimson “X” mark suddenly appeared.

Marie’s breath caught.

“That means—”

“Target lock,” Lucien whispered.

The drones moved.

No roar. No warning. Just lethal precision.

With a sharp metallic SHHK, the entire swarm launched forward… straight toward the ritualists.

The nearest disciple didn’t even have time to turn around.

The Reaper Drones struck.

SHNK!

A Reaper Drone’s injector shot forward faster than blinking.

The needle pierced the ritualist’s neck.

He didn’t even scream.

He collapsed instantly. His flesh decayed from the point of impact as blackened veins spread across his skin.

Marie gagged.

“The needles are necrotic—!”

The ritual array shuddered as one of its channels broke.

The remaining Nephralis and Varkhaal members snapped their heads up. Panic flickered across their faces.

“What—!?”

“An attack?! From where!?”

“MONSTERS—!”

They finally saw the drones.

The guarding disciples lunged forward at once, trying to intercept the nearest drone—

But the moment one became a target…

X.

The red mark appeared.

And death followed.

SHNK-SHNK-SHNK!

Three needles struck three guards in perfect synchronization.

All three collapsed before their bodies even hit the floor.

“NO—!!”

“They’re too fast!”

“Protect the ritual! PROTECT THE—!”

Another X appeared.

Another body fell.

Another.

And another.

The Reaper Drones carved through the ritualists like a silent, merciless execution squad.

Watching from the shadows, Marie nearly burst into laughter.

“Hahah—! Oh my… they’re dropping like flies!”

A Celestial senior whispered in awe,

“…I have never seen that kind of constructs…”

The other senior exhaled slowly, shaken but impressed.

“It was truly the right choice bringing him.”

The Verdant Veil members stared at Lucien as though he were a living calamity disguised in a calm smile.

Lucien himself watched quietly.

Initially, he had considered releasing monsters from his inner world…

But even a casual glance at the Eternal Beasts made one fact obvious.

No monster would dare act here. Their instincts would rupture in fear.

But machines devoid of instinct…

They felt nothing.

And the results were undeniable.

He murmured under his breath—

“The world is much cleaner now.”
