Chapter 191: Chapter 191 – Aurion
After a painstaking month of travel, Lucien and Marie finally neared their destination.

They had crossed mountains, burned through wastelands and met dozens of wandering races along the way.

Yet something felt off. Others seemed to avoid them entirely and the weaker ones even begged for their lives at the slightest bump.

It didn’t take long for them to realize why.

It wasn’t they who inspired such fear, but the disguises they wore.

Every time a passerby caught sight of their Varkhaal faces, they bolted like frightened prey or turned away as if their existence carried plague.

Lucien could only sigh. “Seems like Varkhaals aren’t exactly the friendly type around here.”

Marie folded her arms. “Maybe next time, we should disguise ourselves as someone less murdery-looking. But hey, at least no one’s bothering us, right?”

But the truth was still obvious. They had made a poor choice of disguise. Whatever crimes the Varkhaal Race committed in this region, their reputation was poisonous.

If the Varkhaals had enemies nearby, that would spell real trouble. Fortunately, only wandering races roamed these parts.

They soon continued forward.

After several more hours of travel, vast walls appeared on the horizon.

The walls stretched endlessly, glimmering under the light like silver veins wrapping a mountain. Even from afar, Lucien could sense the layered arrays humming within them. The sheer size alone dwarfed the royal capital from his home world.

Lucien didn’t want to step inside blindly so when a passing bull beastman in Stage 2 of Transcendent Realm came into view, he stopped him with a firm grip on the shoulder. This way, even if he tried to escape, there would be no way out.

“Can I ask a few questions?” Lucien said.

The beastman froze mid-breath, eyes wide as saucers.

Marie leaned closer and whispered, “That’s not how you ask questions, scary guy.”

Lucien ignored her.

The bull beastman’s expression softened when he realized they weren’t picking a fight. “Fine, fine… What do you want to know?”

Lucien asked about the settlement and soon the bull who introduced himself as Murak… began explaining.

“This?” Murak gestured at the distant walls. “This is no mere settlement. That’s the City of Aurion. It was built under the dominion of a Celestial Realm powerhouse, the Luminarch known as Dawnbinder. This city welcomes every race. Many here are unaffiliated wanderers but the Dawnbinder accepts all… so long as they abide by the laws of Aurion.”

Lucien’s eyes narrowed in surprise.

The Luminarch Race. The Great Pathfinders. The same bloodline Elias has. He never expected one of them to be ruling a city of this scale.

Murak continued, clearly proud of his knowledge.

“The Dawnbinder was said to have rejected the decadence of his race. While the other Luminarchs wasted their potential chasing illusions, he turned away from their hollow glory. Built this city from ruins, he did. To restore their lost honor as the world’s greatest pathfinders.”

He paused as his nostrils flared. Then his eyes narrowed.

“They say his strength alone rivals the combined might of three neighboring sects. Nobody causes trouble in Aurion and lives to tell it.”

Lucien nodded thoughtfully. “Impressive. You’re quite well-informed, brother Murak.”

Murak grinned, tail flicking. “When you’re a trader like me, you hear things.”

To Lucien’s mild amusement, the bull soon relaxed around them, chatting openly as they walked toward the city together. The sight drew stares. Few could imagine that Varkhaals and a bull beastman can walk side by side without bloodshed.

When they neared the gates, however, the mood shifted.

Two Ascendant-realm guards dragged a man out. His aura was still strong but helpless as he was thrown into the dust. Laughter erupted from the bystanders.

“Haha! Another fool caught by the Dawnbinder’s decree!”

“Disguises? In Aurion? What a joke!”

Lucien frowned. “What do they mean?”

Murak turned grim.

“Brother, sister… you should know. The Dawnbinder despises disguises. Long ago, he was deceived by shapeshifters who brought ruin upon his people. Since then, he decreed that no disguise shall exist within his domain. The city’s restrictions detects and dispels all illusions. Enter disguised and you’ll be forcibly revealed… and permanently banned.”

Lucien fell silent.

Marie muttered, “Well, that’s just great.”

Lucien nodded to Murak. “Go ahead, brother. We’ll catch up later.”

Murak’s eyes narrowed slightly. He leaned close and whispered, “I knew it. You two aren’t Varkhaals, are you?”

Lucien and Marie froze mid-step.

Lucien’s eyes narrowed as he quietly swept his Divine Sense over the bull beastman. Murak’s aura was steady and grounded. There was no trace of hostility.

Lucien asked calmly, “How did you find out?”

Murak’s lips curved into a faint, knowing smile. “When I said the Dawnbinder’s strength alone rivals the combined might of three neighboring sects… you didn’t react. One of those sects belongs to the Varkhaal Race. Any real Varkhaal would’ve exploded at that.”

He chuckled lowly. “And besides… no Varkhaal speaks that politely. You two stand out like a sore horn.”

Murak’s gaze softened as he continued.

“Still, you don’t seem like bad folk. If you make it through… look for me in the southern market. Farewell, friends.”

Lucien stood there in silence for a heartbeat. A faint smirk tugged at his lips.

‘So he’s been testing us from the start, huh…’

He met Murak’s steady gaze and smiled. “Let’s meet again later, brother Murak.”

“See you later, brother bull!” Marie waved cheerfully.

Lucien then turned and pulled Marie toward the nearby forest.

This was a serious problem. Entering in disguise was impossible and entering as humans was out of the question. Even if Dawnbinder’s race was known for guiding others, Celestial Realm beings were unpredictable.

Together, the two of them could hold their own against Ascendant Realm foesbut facing even a single Celestial Realm powerhouse head-on would be suicide.

Still… missing the chance to enter Aurion wasn’t an option. It might take months to find another city of this scale. One large enough to gather proper information.

Marie exhaled. “So… what now, genius?”

Lucien thought for a moment then sighed. “There’s one way.”

He raised his hand. Threads of law began weaving around him rippling the light.

Marie blinked. “Oh no. Not the mysterious ‘one way.'”

Lucien ignored her.

Origin Rewrite – Rewrite your body and soul’s structure to integrate another creature’s power, race traits, or skills.

(Warning: May cost part of one’s identity. Law of Reflection mastery recommended to reduce side effects.)

He had never tested this on himself before. ‘Sixty percent comprehension should be enough to ease the side effects, right?’

“Keep what you see to yourself,” Lucien said quietly. “Step back first.”

Marie complied, watching warily.

Lucien closed his eyes, drawing the Law of Reflection around him like a mirror that bent reality itself. Then he invoked his skill. Origin Rewrite.

He focused, shaping in his mind the image of the race he wished to become.

And then—

Light fractured around him. The shards of radiance rippled outward like broken glass suspended in air. His reflection wavered, distorted and began to twist. Bones cracked with sharp echoing snaps as his form reshaped itself. Even his soul trembled. Its essence bent under the strain of transformation.

Lucien’s brows furrowed. The pain was unbearable like every nerve was being rewritten by a divine quill but he endured it.

Moments later, his silhouette began to shift. Silver fur rippled across his skin. His frame broadened and his muscles tightened with feral power. His ears stretched upward, tapering into sharp, lupine peaks that flicked with new instincts.

A deep, primal growl escaped his throat as his transformation stabilized.

When the light faded, he stood tall with a huff. Lucien… Has become a Wolf Beastman. His eyes gleamed with feral clarity.

Marie gawked. “…Holy shit.”

Lucien’s voice was also deeper now, roughened by a beast’s timbre.

‘Lootwell… That’s what they called this form in my third life in the Mural World.’

Marie blinked, still processing what just occured.

Without another word, Lucien extended his hand toward her. A pulse of energy burst forth, spiraling through the air like a living current. Light coiled around Marie’s body, tracing every contour in molten silver before flaring violently.

“Argghhhh! Damn you, Luc—” She cut herself short as pain rippled through her bones. Her words broke into a hiss as she clenched her jaw, forcing herself to endure the transformation.

When the glow finally subsided… she stood changed.

Her eyes widened in disbelief. She raised her trembling hands to her face, feeling coarse fur and sharp claws that hadn’t been there moments ago. Her reflection in Lucien’s eyes was no longer human.

“This—this is insane! And again… please, warn me before doing something like that next time!”

Lucien regarded her with calm detachment.

“It was necessary,” he said simply.

Marie’s instincts screamed that something in Lucien had changed. He stood straighter. His movements were predatory. His aura felt colder and sharper. Less man, more wolf.

Her gaze narrowed.

‘No… I can’t be wrong. My woman’s instinct is tingling.’

Lucien closed his eyes briefly. The memories as Lootwell surged. The wars fought, the packs lost, the scent of blood and loyalty.

When he opened them again, his expression was fierce, his gaze glinting like twin blades.

Marie swallowed hard. “You… good there?”

Lucien nodded once as if nothing had happened. “Let’s go.”

He himself didn’t notice any change. He felt normal… yet something beneath the surface stirred.

And so in silence, the two Wolf Beastmen approached the City of Aurion.
