Chapter 186: Chapter 186 – Hunt
The moment Lucien moved, he felt it. Two spiritual marks burrowed deep into his aura like hooks.

He stiffened. ‘Shit! They’ve already tagged me…’

From behind… Through the chaos of collapsing mountains and raging storms of power, two voices cut across the battlefield. They were sharp and mocking.

Nephralis: “Oh-ho? What’s this? Another human?”

Varkhaal: “Impossible. I thought the Celestial Race already gathered the humans from the small world that just emerged.”

Nephralis: “And yet one dares walk right into our battlefield. How amusing. Perhaps he crawled out from another hidden realm?”

Lucien darted between fractured ridges as another blast of energy flattened the earth behind him, leaving molten scars across the landscape.

Varkhaal: “Do you sense it? That resonance?”

Nephralis: “A fragment of the Origin Core… He’s another bearer.”

Varkhaal: “So the rumors were true… There is indeed another hidden world in these plains… yet I can’t feel its gates. Did this human slip out by chance?”

Nephralis: “Then let’s make use of chance. Why not cooperate for now? Our sects have never been enemies anyway. We’ve stayed here for over a year trying to locate the human that escaped. Even our Sect Masters lent us a fragment to find that woman, but it failed. Seems the Heavens have sent us a replacement.”

Varkhaal: “Then we share. You take the man then help me find the woman… Before the Celestial Race meddles again. But the spoils are split only after capturing both.”

Nephralis: “Agreed. Humans make fine vessels. A pity the Celestials are protecting them so fiercely. But there are no Celestials here anymore. Once we seize both, our sects could breed a generation of human hosts.”

Their laughter rolled like thunder across the horizon.

Lucien’s blood ran cold.

‘What the fuck… Are humans merely livestock to other races? What has become of this world!?’ His breath came ragged. ‘And the Celestial Race… Father Virel and Mother Aniel’s race… were they protecting the humans?’

He vaulted over a shattered ridge and tumbled down into a big forest below.

‘Wait… if that’s true, then there are others… Other humans from the small worlds. Seems like I wasn’t the first to arrive here. And that woman they mentioned… could she be another human? A reincarnator like me?’

No answer came… only the bone-shaking tremors of pursuit.

The air thickened. The Ascendants’ overlapping Domains pressed closer, twisting the fabric of space. The sky pulsed with powerful energy. One of devouring shadow and the other of consuming flame.

Lucien could feel both closing in.

“If I enter my Divine Core here,” he muttered, “they’ll sense it instantly. Damn it.”

He sprinted through colossal trees whose roots were bigger than buldings. Every step shattered the ground beneath him.

Even as the pressure mounted, a crooked grin spread across his face.

“Fine,” he whispered. “If this world wants to kill me… it better make sure it succeeds.”

Behind him, two streaks tore through the heavens.

Nephralis: “He’s fast. Too fast for a mere human.”

Varkhaal: “Not ordinary. He is also a wielder of divine energy… Like those Celestial Race bastards.”

Nephralis: “Then the hunt becomes more interesting.”

Varkhaal: “Let’s see how long he can run before we devour him whole.”

Their laughter echoed through the burning forest.

•••

Just then, Lucien reached the end of the forest.

The canopy broke open into a vast field. And when his boots struck the open ground… Lucien stopped.

Slowly, he turned around.

From his Inventory, he drew Morphis, his ever-shifting weapon.

At his touch, the weapon’s form shuddered. A deep roar echoed through its metallic veins as the Soul Core of the Ancient Dragon pulsed within.

The weapon reshaped into a massive cannon and scales rippled across its surface. Runes blazed to life.

Lucien planted his feet, aimed toward the forest… and poured his divine energy into it. The cannon hummed. The runes lit up as he charge energy into it.

Then… He pulled the trigger and the cannon screamed.

A torrent of annihilation surged forth. The beam ripped across the forest like the breath of a god, vaporizing everything in its path. The colossal trees shattered, the ground turned molten and the world quaked beneath the force.

For a heartbeat… silence.

Then came the laughter.

Nephralis: “Oh ho… that weapon looks exquisite. Wait… Why can I feel the aura of my ancestors in that weapon? That artifact must be one of our long-long-lost treasures.”

Varkhaal: “Long-long-lost treasure, my ass. That weapon fits me better. Its resonance matches my fighting style perfectly.”

Lucien stared at the two with an unreadable expression. Their greed can’t be hidden at all.

“Ancestors, huh?” he said coolly. “Seems you’ve forgotten your roots. Humans are half your ancestors. You should be bowing to me, your little ancestor.”

Morphis shimmered again. It shifted into a longbow. Lucien drew its string, forming a blazing arrow of divine energy.

He released.

The arrow split midair into dozens of streaks of light.

The Ascendants only smirked. “Tricks,” Varkhaal muttered… until the arrows struck their Domains.

The moment they touched, their Domains hissed and dissolved.

“What—?” Nephralis recoiled.

It wasn’t just any ordinary arrow. Lucien infused the essence of Decay on it… a fragment of the Law of Life and Death.

The two Ascendants instantly dodged the remaining barrage. Their expressions twisted into alarm.

Nephralis: “What kind of law is that?”

It shouldn’t have been possible. No transcendent human should be able to wound an Ascendant’s Domain.

Lucien only grinned. He was prepared to fight even in death. “I’m a petty man,” he said. “Even if I die, I’ll make sure it costs you dearly.”

The Ascendants’ faces changed. In a blur, the two appeared beside him. They moved faster than sound.

Lucien whispered, “Equip: Genesis Set.”

Five radiant sigils ignited around his body. The genesis set materialized in full glory. And then… The world slowed to a crawl.

Before their strikes could land, Lucien vanished.

“Cosmic Magic: Cosmic Convergence.”

Lucien called upon his past selves. Dozens of Luciens flickered into existence. Each bore seventy percent of his power. Every clone pulsed with Reflected Intent, bending light and energy through the Law of Reflection.

The Ascendants froze in brief surprise then sneered. Their eyes gleamed. Not with fear but greed.

Nephralis: “His equipment… that alone could elevate a sect.”

Varkhaal: “I’ll strip it from him.”

They ignored the clones foolishly.

Nephralis: “Deal with the reflections. I’ll take the real one.”

Varkhaal’s shadow domain surged. It swallowed the clones in waves of corrosive darkness.

Meanwhile, Nephralis lunged for Lucien.

But his strike hit only air.

Lucien’s Boots of Reflection flared. The half-dragon’s attacks only hit his afterimages.

Nephralis hissed in irritation, retreating a step. He raised both hands, summoning a massive flame.

“Domain Art: Scorching Purgatory!”

The air screamed as a tidal wave of fire formed above him.

Lucien’s expression hardened. He raised his hand and his Magic Book appeared. Its pages fluttered open and it stopped on a specific page.

Law of Inversion.

The moment the inferno was about to struck him. Lucien activated the function. The Magic Book reversed the spell’s nature. Destruction became restoration. Heat turned to vitality.

The flames washed over Lucien like a healing tide. His wounds sealed and his energy surged.

Still… it cost him. Each inversion drained his divine energy reserves. But then again, he has a lot of accumulated divine energy.

“Thanks to Clara, I guess?” he muttered with a grin. “Your cult’s faith keeps me well-stocked.”

The duel raged on.

Nephralis changed tactics, mixing blade and spell. Lucien parried, twisted, countered. Every movement was calculated. He met each attack not with brute force but with precision born of his Perfect Calculation Skill.

But when Varkhaal finished slaughtering Lucien’s clones, he rejoined the fight.

Two Ascendants. One Transcendent.

Lucien held his ground.

Each time they tried to trap him within their Domains, he countered by lacing his aura with Decay. It corroded their constructs until they recoiled in fear of backlash.

They began to speak between attacks.

Nephralis: “Why do I feel this human wields multiple laws?”

Varkhaal: “Impossible. Not even a Primordial could. It might be a trick… or maybe he is using an inheritance from those hidden worlds.”

Lucien didn’t bother replying. He was already calculating his next ten moves.

The fight reached a stalemate. Lucien couldn’t overpower them but they couldn’t suppress him either.

But still, Lucien could feel something was off. Their blows were monstrous yet deep down, he knew it. They weren’t giving their all.

A sharp breath escaped him. ‘No… They’re still holding back.’

His gaze darted between the two as their auras collided. And then realization struck him like lightning.

‘These scheming bastards… they’re still wary of each other’.

A bitter smirk crossed his face.

Before he could gather his breath, Lucien’s instincts screamed. His aura flared violently as he turned. The horizon itself seemed to ripple.

That was when he felt it… Dozens of presences surged from the distance.

The air split open. Transcendents and Ascendants. Their banners bore the sigils of Nephralis and Varkhaal’s sects.

Nephralis: “Ha! Human, you should have surrendered. Now that my sect is here, you have no way out!”

Varkhaal: “Remember our deal. We’ll share the spoils once the woman is found.”

Lucien stood still. His expression was still calm. His heartbeat thundered but his gaze burned steady.

He would rather die than be livestock.

His aura erupted. Life and death intertwined into a chaotic storm.

Each strike now carried the echo of a law. His attacks grew heavier, sharper, desperate… but so did theirs.

The two Ascendants finally unleashed their true power. Domains expanded. Flames and shadows consumed the battlefield.

Lucien fought until his arms trembled.

At last, Nephralis’s Domain swallowed him whole.

The world turned crimson. Fire raged in all directions.

And yet… Lucien stood unbound.

Nephralis froze. “Impossible… why can’t I suppress him?”

Lucien smirked. ‘Aura of the Unyielding Sovereign. You’ll need a Primordial to make me kneel.’

He moved freely, corrupting the fiery world with tendrils of death energy. The flames blackened, turning to nothing beneath his touch.

But the battle had dragged too long.

The newcomers closed in, surrounding him.

He struck one down, dodged another, blocked three more… but they kept coming.

Sweat stung his eyes. His breathing grew shallow.

“Is this it?” he muttered. “Dying a virgin again… maybe being livestock wouldn’t be so bad.” He laughed weakly. “Just kidding.”

Morphis blazed. He poured everything into it. Every scrap of divine energy and even the fragment of origin core.

The Genesis Set absorbed his energy. It released waves of counterforce and shields of light. The Aegis of Rebirth guarded him from fatal blows. His Magic Book kept inverting spells… until even inversion became too costly.

A blast from both Ascendants struck him head-on.

He hit the ground.

Without any pause, chains of law-infused mana snaked around him. Domain Arts pressed down with crushing weight too.

Lucien bit his lip until blood flowed, forcing himself to stay conscious. He knew he could escape.

He was seconds from entering his Divine Core. If he retreated into his divine energy core, all the binding laws restraining him would collapse instantly.

But… he hesitated.

‘Damn it… Not yet.’

Just then…

The ground trembled.

A low rumble grew into a roar as the battlefield itself moved.

The soil beneath Lucein swelled, forming a colossal hand of earth and stone. It bypassed every law and every suppression.

Before anyone could react, it seized Lucien… dragging him down into the depths.

Lucien’s vision blurred. His consciousness slipped away as he felt the world swallow him whole.

Everyone was stunned by what unfolded before their eyes. For a moment, even time itself seemed to freeze.

It didn’t take long before they understood

Nephralis: “It was that woman!”

Varkhaal: “Follow the traces! Don’t let the two of them escape!”

The hunt began anew.
